Free one-day conference with FTA and Freight by Water
8/9/12 4:12 PM
FTA and Freight by Water are pleased to announce they are staging a free one-day conference considering the opportunities and issues surrounding the use of short-sea freight services.
The event is due to be held on 7 September 2012 at PD Ports, Middlesbrough, and will address issues of national significance as well as focussing on the north-east of England and the North Sea.
Among the key-note speakers will be the Department for Transport (DfT) discussing government grants and the ways in which the industry can utilise them effectively. The 2015 Sulphur Directive is also to be discussed in detail, assessing its potential impact on services and costs.
There will also be market briefings on the possibilities for water freight for containers and trucks and the experience of port-centric logistics by users – focussing on the limits and benefits.
Speakers are to include the Chamber of Shipping, Asda, BG Freight Line, P&O Ferries and PD Ports.
The aims of the conference will be to provide information to potential users of water freight services as a complement to road-based services, and during the day current options available will be considered – looking at how these are likely to develop over the next few years.
The one-day conference is of particular relevance to shippers, hauliers, forwarders and all those involved in the short-sea water freight industry, and as it is a one-day free conference places are expected to be reserved quickly.
