More rail freight services between UK and Italy

DB Schenker Rail UK has strengthened rail freight connections between the UK and Italy with the introduction of an additional weekly service operating between Hams Hall in the Midlands and Domodossola in Northern Italy. Previously DB Schenker Rail UK operated three return rail freight services per week between the UK and Italy.

The additional new service now provides customers with a haulage solution four days per week, with trains departing every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Rail freight services between the UK and Italy are used by a wide a range of retailers, food producers and manufacturers, and the trains are operated by DB Schenker Rail utilising its pan-European rail freight network.

In early 2013, a fifth service between Hams Hall and Domodossola will be introduced by DB Schenker Rail UK, providing a weekday service between the two countries.

This will be the first time that a five day a week rail freight solution between the UK and Italy has been made available to customers.

Alain Thauvette, Chief Executive of DB Schenker Rail UK, said: “By introducing a fourth rail freight service between the UK and Italy, we have strengthened our ability to provide customers with a regular and reliable logistics alternative to road haulage. We look forward to operating a full weekday service in the coming year, with the introduction of a fifth weekly service between the two countries. Doing so enables customers to switch freight from road to rail, helping to reduce carbon.”
