Newly established freight shipping company North Sea RoRo has launched a ro-ro service between Sweden and the UK in competition with dominant operator DFDS.
CEO Mårten Carlquist said North Sea RoRo was established to meet demand for greater competition and flexibility for UK traffic.
The service, between Gothenburg and Killingholme near Immingham, will begin with three crossings a week in each direction.
Carlquist said: “The project has been met with great interest and has built confidence among carriers and other stakeholders. We will have a high shipment volume on the route from the first day of service.”
One of the initiators of the new company was forwarding agent NTEX which will send significant cargo volumes through the new service.
CEO Thomas Ström said: "To date there has been only one ro-ro service between Sweden and England. Our conclusion is that there is very good potential to provide both increased competition and dynamics in the market."
He said news of the launch had sparked “keen interest and positive feedback” from both the transport industry and investors.
