A key link in the Strategic Rail Freight Network, the Nuneaton North Chord, has opened. This new piece of rail line will benefit freight services travelling from major ports in the South East, such as Felixstowe, to the main routes to the Midlands and the north and west of Britain.
The one-mile stretch of new railway both eases rail congestion at Nuneaton and provides capacity for the expansion of intermodal train services to support customers in, and the economies of, the West Midlands, North West of England and Scotland.
Alain Thauvette, Chief Executive of DB Schenker Rail UK commented: “The Nuneaton North Chord is an important strategic investment to support the UK economy as well as the rail freight industry. Intermodal traffic is the fastest growing rail freight sector and the opening of the Nuneaton North Chord will allow the rail freight industry to offer its customers the flexible and reliable services needed to facilitate continued growth.”
