The United Kingdom Major Ports Group
The United Kingdom Major Ports Group Ltd (UKMPG) is the trade association representing most of the larger commercial ports in the United Kingdom. It has nine members who between them own and operate 41 ports and 2 terminals accounting for over 70% of the tonnage handled in UK ports.
What we do
UKMPG represents the interests and concerns of its members to policy makers and opinion formers in the UK and Europe, on those areas of Government or EU policy which affect the industry.
UKMPG collaborates with the British Ports Association (BPA) on many issues of shared interest, particularly in the marine and environmental fields. UKMPG is the joint owner with the BPA of Port Skills & Safety, which covers safety and training matters across the whole of the industry. UKMPG is also an active member of European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO), the association which represents European seaports in Brussels; Maritime UK, an association of organisations from across the UK ports, shipping and maritime business sectors; and the Seabed User and Developer Group, which represents the interests of business sectors participating in the sustainable development of the seabed round the UK.
